The Singapore University of Technology and Design (Abbreviation: SUTD) will be Singapore's fourth autonomous university. It is developed in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Zhejiang University. SUTD's mission is to advance knowledge and nurture technically grounded leaders and innovators serve societal needs. This will be accomplished with a focus on Design, through an integrated multi-disciplinary curriculum and multi-disciplinary research. It will be the only university to be located in the eastern part of Singapore, at Changi. The university is expected to open its doors in April 2012, with its campus constructed by 2015 that is located next to the Upper Changi MRT Station which will be operational in 2018. The founding president is Thomas L. Magnanti, who is an Institute Professor with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Admission
SUTD admits students based on academic and non-academic qualifications. Applicants must possess one of the following academic qualifications: GCE Advanced Level certificate, Polytechnic diploma, International Baccalaureate diploma, NUS High School diploma or SAT and TOEFL (for international applicants).
In addition, applicants will have to submit a 500 words personal statement, go through an interview, have one letter of recommendation from teacher and possess good Co-curricular activities records.
Campuses
The interim campus for Singapore University of Technology and Design is at Dover, Singapore. SUTD's permanent campus, to be located in Changi, will be ready in 2018.
