Lu "Louis" Chen (Chinese: 劉謙; pinyin: Liú Qiān; Wade–Giles: Liu Ch'ien) (b. June 25, 1976) is a Taiwanese magician and is credited to be the only Taiwanese magician to perform in Hollywood's Magic Castle, commonly referred to as Taiwan's most renowned magician. He graduated from Soochow University with a degree in Japanese literature.
Lu Chen has made multiple appearances internationally, performing in Japan, South Korea, Europe, and the United States.[2] His first public appearance in the mainland China was in 2009, during CCTV's annual Spring Festival, performing a close-range three-part magic show,[3] which included "teleporting" an engagement ring into a real egg.

Lu Chen has been performing and judging on the magic segment of the Chang Fei's popular Taiwanese variety show, Variety Big Brother since 2007 to 2009. After which, he mainly appears in Mainland China and Japan for his performances. In 2010, he was awarded the Merlin Award, his 26th magic award for his career. In 2011, Lu Chen became the first Asian magician to have his own stage performance at Las Vegas and the first Chinese magician to be published in the American MAGIC magazine. Today, many consider Lu Chen to be Asia's David Copperfield due to his high fame and popularity especially in Asia.

Our 联合晚报 media interview on the local commercial magic scene & about fellow successful Merlin Award recipient Lu Chen (Liu Qian/ 劉謙) came out last evening, check it out :)

Mucho kudos to our wonderful supportive fan Joyce Stella for scanning the Chinese newspaper article above. By the way, the article’s title doesn’t refer to J C & yours truly as we in fact stated opposing views as full-time professionals…

Noting consistencies over the years, I think one very obvious sign of a magician’s success can be easily recognized by how many magic clones or blatant copycats s/he has created :P

No one’s going to take you seriously if you claim to be a pro but you’re just a cookie cutter without any pride or originality. More so if you knowingly rip off someone’s image or signature acts.  That’s just really lame and completely unprofessional. Some may even call you unethical.

And in fact, all the local professional magicians who’ve been with us have been commercially successful & drive their own cars… paid for entirely by what they’ve earned in magic,  and they live very comfortably. No “struggling artistes” from the Concept:Magic family, that’s for sure!

By the way… I’ve always been a very stern advocate of further education because studying is important, so that’s a given. I’m not telling young people that the path to show business is a glorious one either, it definitely isn’t easy. I just disagree with the sweeping statement or notion that “one cannot make it here in Singapore as a full-time magician”.

Her alumni include Chen Kaige and Lu Chuan. However, a busy acting career and a short break to become a mother have postponed her graduation. Actress Zhao Wei is seen in a poster for her upcoming directorial debut.
