A Young People's Action Party (YP) member has quit the party following an uproar online over an inflammatory posting he made on Facebook.
Jason Neo had, in February, posted a picture of Malay children on a religious preschool bus with a caption saying, “"Bus filled with young t*******t trainees?”. The posting was made before he joined YP in June.
At about 3pm on Thursday, Neo, a volunteer at the Sembawang Meet-the-People sessions, issued an apology on Facebook, saying he did not intend to sow racial discord.
The post was brought to people’s attention after another Facebook user 27-year-old Noor Firdaus, spotted the picture and highlighted its derogatory remark.
I got a shock when I saw a photo on Facebook of a bus with children in it. And it was captioned "Bus filled with young terrorist trainees?"
It's so outrageous I thought it was a hoax, but after following the news, I realised it was legitimate. More can be read from The Online Citizen here.
In any context, the caption is disgusting and disgraceful. I condemn this act, and this racist and feel he has no place in Singapore society. His act is a hindrance to peace and harmony.
He is also a disgrace to ethnic Chinese like myself, as well as among those who acknowledge and appreciate our privileged position in Singapore society, and are also active in supporting or advocating a peaceful and harmonious coexistence for all.
A TOC reader, Mr Noor Firdaus was so irked by the photo above which was captioned with a highly racist and offensive remark that he wrote in to a few MPs requesting that they ask Mr Neo to take that picture down. Mr Firdaus claims that the picture with the highly offensive caption was posted on the Facebook of a Young PAP member Jason Neo.
