Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. Apple iPhone 5: Spec Showdown

If you are thinking to upgrade your phone and you are having second thoughts about Apple’s iPhone 5 or Samsung’s Galaxy S4 , then this post will be a tie breaker. It shows exactly what features, hardware and software specifications these 2 phones have and watch the video as well :

Galaxy S4 Group
After months of rumors, Samsung finally took the wraps off its next-generation Galaxy S4 at a huge press event at Radio City Music Hall in New York last night. That location was no coincidence. From its 1.9-GHz quad-core processor to its 13-megapixel camera, the Galaxy S4 is an almost theatrically overblown phone, stuffed to the plastic casing with hardware and features.
But is it good enough to lure Apple fanboys and girls over to Android? We’ve stacked up specs for the GS4 side by side against the iPhone 5 to help determine which phone is right for you. Comparing Android to iOS is a little like comparing apples to oranges, but as you can see from the specs, it’s a pretty close call everywhere else.
When you look at the phones next to one another, one thing’s for certain: the Galaxy S4 is a heck of a lot bigger. With a huge 5-inch screen, the Galaxy S4 technically meets our size requirements for a phablet, which we use to describe phones with screen sizes ranging from 5.0 to 6.9 inches. That means it’s probably not as comfortable to hold and use the GS4 as it is the 4-inch iPhone 5, especially if you have smaller hands.
But for those who think bigger is better, the Galaxy S4′s monster screen is a step up from its predecessor in terms of size and resolution. Coming in at a full 1,920-by-1080 pixels, the GS4′s Super AMOLED panel is rich and bright. At 441 pixels per inch, it’s also a good deal denser than the iPhone 5′s Retina display, which has 326 pixels per inch. On the other hand, Samsung’s PenTile pixel arrangement can make things look a little fuzzy, which is sure to turn some people off.
Other specs are more difficult to compare. We still don’t even know who makes the GS4′s quad-core 1.9-GHz processor, let alone how well it will perform. And the GS4′s 13-megapixel camera has lots of crazy features, like the ability to record from both the front and rear cameras at the same time. But recent experience with phones like the LG Optimus G for Sprint has shown us that more megapixels don’t necessarily equal better images. The iPhone 5 remains one of our favorite camera phones, so it’ll be interesting to see how the GS4 compares.
The biggest difference is that the Galaxy S4 uses the latest version of Android (4.2.2; Jelly Bean), while the iPhone 5 uses iOS 6.1.2. iOS is an easier operating system to learn and use, especially for beginners, and the Apple App Store is still unsurpassed in terms of number of apps available and quality. But the Google Play store is nipping at its heels, and Android features a much more customizable interface for advanced users, which lets you configure your phone exactly how you want it.
There’s still no price or release date for the Galaxy S4, but it will be available on all four major U.S. Carriers, as well as Cricket and U.S. Cellular. That means it’ll be easier to get than the iPhone 5. But only time will tell if it will be better.

Song Kee Fishball Noodle

Song Kee Fishball Noodle:Making fishballs isn't easy.  "Yeah right, tell me something I don't know" I hear you say.  But I am actually telling you from personal experience.  Yes, I have tried to come up with a recipe for fishballs and so far, I haven't been very successful.  When I speak with fishball sellers, they all tell me that fishball is essentially, fishmeat (in Singapore Yellowtail fish is the most commonly used) that has been minced, mixed with a bit of salt and beaten.  You won't be able to produce that bouncy texture by just mincing it in a food processor.  In order to get the protein strands to unravel and align to produce that bounce, the paste has to be beaten. In the past, the hawkers used to use their hands to beat the fish paste until it gets to the right consistency.  So I thought I could easily beat fishballs at home.

nly $2.50, the noodles come with a generous serving of fishballs.

Serving fishball noodles with homemade fishballs made from pure yellowtail fish meat, this stall is located at Lorong 5 Toa Payoh Food Centre.

Overview of Song Kee Fishball Noodle a Singaporean Hawker Centre which offers Noodle and located in Toa Payoh Singapore.

This stall deserves a mention because they make their fishballs by hand. There is always a queue for their noodles. Taste: 6.5/10. The noodles taste mediocre.

This was a nice find! Good al dente noodles with a surprise highlight - a kick-ass sambal chili sauce that lifted it beyond the plane of ordinary fishball noodles! The fishballs themselves are not as large and bouncy as I had hoped for but they sufficed. For S$2.50, you also get a piece of stuffed fried tofu that was quite tasty too.

The noodles taste mediocre. They were slightly overdone so it feels a bit too soft and slimy in my mouth. They use bit of ketchup in the dry version. I can’t fault this but personally I think it’s a lazy way to flavour noodles. Overall the noodles tastes good but low scores on noodle texture.
I can tell from the shape of the fishballs, they were hand made by scooping fishmeat with spoons. They tastes fresh and have a softer bite compared to factory fishballs. Factory fishballs tends to be salty, have a stronger fish taste and a firmer bite. But frankly I’m not a big fan of fishballs so I don’t think the difference matters much to me.

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Release Date

Google's showing no signs of slowing its pace of Android development, with Android 4.0 appearing on the Galaxy Nexus late in 2011, followed in July of 2012 by the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean release that arrived powering the superNexus 7.
But, forward-looking, update-obsessed people that we are, we can't help but imagine how Google's going to maintain the pace of innovation in its next version of its mobile OS, Android 5.0.
All we know so far is that Google's working away on the K release of Android, which it's developing under the dessert-related codename of Key Lime Pie. Regarding the version number, it's likely that the Key Lime Pie moniker will be given to Android 5.0. We thought we might find out on 29 October 2012 but as yet there is no official word from Google.
So now as we wait on official news of the Android 5.0 release date and features, we can start to pull together the Key Lime Pie rumours from around the web, with the first sighting of Android 5.0 on a benchmarking website, apparently running on a Sony smartphone. There has previously been speculation that Sony is in line to produce the next Nexus phone, which may lend some credence to this rumour.

Android 5.0 release date

Google has announced that its next developer conference - Google IOwill take place from May 15 to May 17 2013, a month earlier than 2012's June dates. Given that Google announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at 2012's IO conference, it's not unreasonable to expect to see Android 5.0 at this year's event.
Google IO 2012Androids out in force at Google IO 2012
On 31 January, a Google IO showing of Android 5.0 looked more likely whenscreengrabs of a Qualcomm roadmap were leaked, showing Android 5.0 as breaking cover between April and June 2013.

Android 5.0 phones

Rumours of a new Nexus handset started trickling in during the third quarter of 2012, as we reported on 1 October 2012. There was speculation that this phone would be sporting Key Lime Pie, but sources who spoke to AndroidAndMe correctly claimed that the handset, which turned out to be the Google Nexus 4 would be running Android Jelly Bean.
While the Nexus 4 didn't appear with a helping of Key Lime Pie,speculation that we reported on 21 January 2013 suggests that theMotorola X Phone is the Android 5.0-toting handset that will be revealed at Google IO. According to a post on the DroidForums website, the phone will also feature a virtually bezel-free, edge-to-edge, 5-inch display.
The same leaked Qualcomm documents cited above also made mention of a two new Snapdragon devices, one of which will be, unsurprisingly, a new Nexus phone.
That Nexus phone is most likely the Google Nexus 5, though we'd be surprised to see it break cover at Google IO, given that the Nexus 4 only went on sale at the end of 2012.
On Monday 18 March, supposed images of the Nexus 5 surfaced, with the handset apparently being manufactured by LG. If the accompanying specs, leaked along with the photo by the anonymous source, are true, then the Nexus 5 will feature a 5.2-inch, 1920 x 1080 OLED display, 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 3GB of RAM.

Samsung's Android 5.0 upgrades

Although Samsung is yet to officially confirm its Android 5.0 schedule, a SamMobile source is claiming to know which phones and tablets will be getting the Key Lime Pie upgrade. According to the source, the devices set to receive the upgrade are the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2,Galaxy Note 8.0 and Galaxy Note 10.1.
Samsung Galaxy S4As you'd expect, the S4 will be getting an Android 5.0 update

Android 5.0 features

For 24 hours, it seemed as though the first kinda, sorta confirmed feature for Android 5.0 was a Google Now widget, which briefly appeared in a screenshot on the company's support forum before being taken down. As it was so hurriedly pulled, many people assumed it was slated for the big five-o and accidentally revealed early.
As it happened, the following day, on 13 February 2013, the Google Now widget rolled out to Jelly Bean.
On 28 February 2013, we learned from Android Central that Google is working with the Linux 3.8 kernel, which gives rise to the notion that this kernel might make it into Android 5. One improvement that the 3.8 kernel brings is lowered RAM usage, which would mean a snappier phone with better multitasking.
While we wait on Key Lime Pie features to be revealed and scour the web for more Android 5.0 news, TechRadar writer Gary Cutlack has been thinking about what we want to see in Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Hopefully the new mobile OS will feature some of these things...

1. Performance Profiles

It's bit of a fuss managing your mobile before bed time. Switching off the sound, turning off data, activating airplane mode and so on, so what Android 5.0 really needs is a simple way of managing performance, and therefore power use, automatically.
We've been given a taste of this with Blocking Mode in Samsung's Jelly Bean update on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Note 2 but we'd like to see the functionality expanded.
Something like a Gaming mode for max power delivery, an Overnight low-power state for slumbering on minimal power and maybe a Reading mode for no bothersome data connections and a super-low backlight.
Some hardware makers put their own little automated tools in, such as the excellent Smart Actions found within Motorola's RAZR interface, but it'd be great to see Google give us a simple way to manage states.
Another little power strip style widget for phone performance profiles would be an easy way to do it.
android 5Set telephone to BEDTIME SLEEPY MODE

2. Better multiple device support

Google already does quite a good job of supporting serious Android nerds who own several phones and tablets, but there are some holes in its coverage that are rather frustrating.
Take the Videos app which manages your film downloads through the Play Store. Start watching a film on one Android device and you're limited to resuming your film session on that same unit, making it impossible to switch from phone to tablet mid-film.
You can switch between phone and web site players to resume watching, but surely Google ought to understand its fans often have a couple of phones and tabs on the go and fix this for Android Key Lime Pie?

3. Enhanced social network support

Android doesn't really do much for social network users out of the box, with most of the fancy social widgets and features coming from the hardware makers through their own custom skins.
Sony integrates Facebook brilliantly in its phones, and even LG makes a great social network aggregator widget that incorporates Facebook and Twitter - so why are there no cool aggregator apps as part of the standard Android setup?
Yes, Google does a great job of pushing Google+, but, no offence, there are many other more widely used networks that ought to be a little better "baked in" to Android.

4. Line-drawing keyboard options

Another area where the manufacturers have taken a big leap ahead of Google is in integrating clever alternate text entry options in their keyboards. HTC and Sony both offer their own takes on the Swype style of line-drawing text input, which is a nice option to have for getting your words onto a telephone. Get it into Android 5.0 and give us the choice.
UPDATE: Google heard us and this feature appeared in Android 4.2.
Android 5 keyboardP-U-T T-H-I-S I-N A-N-D-R-O-I-D 5-.-0

5. A video chat app

How odd is it that Google's put a front-facing camera on the Nexus 7 and most hardware manufacturers do the same on their phones and tablets, yet most ship without any form of common video chat app?
You have to download Skype and hope it works, or find some other downloadable app solution. Why isn't there a Google Live See My Face Chat app of some sort as part of Android? Is it because we're too ugly? Is that what you're saying, Google?

6. Multi-select in the contacts

The Android contacts section is pretty useful, but it could be managed a little better. What if you have the idea of emailing or texting a handful of your friends? The way that's currently done is by emailing one, then adding the rest individually. Some sort of checkbox system that let users scroll through names and create a mailing list on the fly through the contacts listing in Android Key Lime Pie would make this much easier.
Android 5 contactsMake this a destination, rather than a never-used list

7. Cross-device SMS sync

If you're a constant SIM swapper with more than one phone on the go, chances are you've lost track of your text messages at some point. Google stores these on the phone rather than the SIM card, so it'd be nice if our texts could be either backed up to the SIM, the SD card, or beamed up to the magical invisible cloud of data, for easy and consistent access across multiple devices.

8. A "Never Update" option

This would annoy developers so is unlikely to happen, but it'd be nice if we could refuse app updates permanently in Android 5.0, just in case we'd rather stick with a current version of a tool than be forced to upgrade.
Sure, you can set apps to manual update and then just ignore the update prompt forever, but it'd be nice to know we can keep a favoured version of an app without accidentally updating it. Some of us are still using the beta Times app, for example, which has given free access for a year.
Android 5 appsLet us keep older versions. Many people fear change

9. App preview/freebie codes

Something Apple's been doing for ages and ages is using a promo code system to distribute free or review versions of apps. It even makes doing little competitions to drum up publicity for apps much easier, so why's there no similar scheme for Android?
It might encourage developers to stop going down the ad-covered/freemium route if they could charge for an app but still give it away to friends and fans through a promo code system.

10. Final whinges and requests...

It's be nice to be able to sort the Settings screen by alphabetical order, too, or by most commonly used or personal preference, as Android's so packed with a huge list of options these days it's a big old list to scroll through and pick out what you need.
Plus could we have a percentage count for the battery in the Notifications bar for Android 5.0? Just so we know a bit more info than the vague emptying battery icon.

American Flag

American Flag:Latest news American Flag.Search result American Flag. All about American Flag.Singapore trend American Flag.
Over the marquee’s neon red glare there is no proof that our flag is still there.

The American flag on top of the marquee of The Pavilion, the movie theatre on Prospect Park West, is not being displayed properly, and some neighbors, including a former Marine and a retired fireman, feel that the theatre’s display of the Stars and Stripes is disrespecting our country and our troops.

For a couple of weeks now, the flag has been wrapped around its pole, touching the top surface of the marquee and is not taken down at night, three violations of the US Flag Code etiquette.

Jim Rallis, a neighborhood resident and a retired captain of the FDNY’s Ladder Company 122, notified Patch that the flag, which is on the section of Prospect Park West that was recently co-named “Julian Brennan Way,” a Park Slope resident and Marine who died while serving the US in Afghanistan, is being flown improperly.

He said that he has gone to the theatre five times in the past two weeks to speak with the manager in order to get it fixed, but to no avail. According to Rallis, the manager said the flag is not flying properly because the flagpole is broken.

“The laziness of the management of the Pavilion is an embarrassment,” Rallis said. “That they will not open a window and take in the US Flag and show it's proper respect while we have brave men and woman still overseas fighting and protecting our freedom….Where is the respect?”

A manager at The Pavilion refused to give Patch a comment on Friday about the flag. However, she did say they have received complaints about how they are displaying our country’s banner.

“We are not talking about this,” the manager stated.

But Rallis is by far not the only one concerned about how the flag is being disrespected, especially on Julian Brennan Way and steps from Bartel-Prichard Square, a memorial for two young Brooklynites who died in combat during World War I.

Joe, a 48-year-old Kensington resident who did not want to give his last name, was walking past the cinema with his son when he noticed the condition of the flag.

“I think it is a travesty, I really do,” Joe said.

Then his son, James, who is 8 and goes to Immaculate Heart of Mary in Fort Hamilton, said the flag was not being displayed with respect.

“The American flag should never touch the ground or be displayed in a disrespectful manner,” the boy said while he was standing under the marquee on Friday.

And the kid is right. According to the US Flag Code, which was established on Flag Day, June 14, 1923, “The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.”

Also, it custom to display the flag only from “sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open.” But the flag at The Pavilion is outside during the night. However, the code states, “…The flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.”

But there is no light illuminating the flag.

“Anyone who knows the history of the American flag knows this is a disgrace to America’s history,” Joe said. “This flag, considering the proximity to Julian Brennan Way, does not serve his memory well.”

A spokesman for the office of the Borough President, Marty Markowitz, said that they do not tolerate misuse of the American flag.

“Our office takes seriously the proper display of the American flag,” the spokesman said. “Our office is looking into the complaint of this location.”

Up a couple blocks, at Farrell’s Bar on 16th Street, a former Marine and 44-year Windsor Terrace resident, Charlie O’Donnell, said he has seen The Pavilion’s flag in bad condition for far too long.

“I am upset! They have had more than enough time to fix it—the flag has been in disarray for at least two months,” O’Donnell said. “They bring the marquee up to date, just spend ten minutes and bring it down.”

A co-owner of the bar, Jim Houlihan, also believes the flag is being treated with disrespect.

“They are showing no respect for the American flag, they should take it down or display it properly,” Houlihan said. “There are too many guys dying for this country for there to be a flag like that one.”

Yeo Chong Lin

Yeo Chong Lin:Shipping tycoon Yeo Chong Lin is giving only S$1 (RM2.40) inheritence to each of his four children.

The 77-year-old Singaporean did not leave a single cent to his girlfriend of six years.

Instead, Yeo left his entire S$45 million fortune to his seven siblings.

He told Lianhe Wanbao that he had severed ties with his children.

Yeo, the main shareholders of Yeo Holdings, lost a divorce suit in which he was order to pay S$24 million to his ex-wife Nancy Tay last year.

The money was under the care of his eldest son, aged 56.

Earlier, the tycoon had given S$25 million worth of cash and company shares to his youngest son, 45, and S$15 million to his two daughters - aged 48 and 54.

Yeo said the four children and eight grandchildren had never visited or telephoned him since then.

"Whatever it is, I'm still their father. But they began to ignore me after taking the money. They didn't even call to say hello," said Yeo.

Yeo, who started his career as a shipping clerk at 17, is a self-made millionaire.

While the elder Yeo took cash for his 75 per cent portion of Yeo Holdings’ Swissco shares, Alex Yeo opted for shares in C20 at a ratio of 1.7917 new shares per Swissco share, indicating that he would be among the directors the company.

Despite obtaining a waiver from making a general offer for the entire outstanding Swissco shares, early this month, C2O placed on the table two alternative offers to the remaining Swissco shareholders.

The first option is 1.7917 new shares of C2O for each Swissco shares. The second is a payout of 89 cents per Swissco share. Or it could be a combination of both.

We are the biggest & best online video game shop in Singapore

There are increasingly number of game shops who blatantly exploit, scam and cheat ignorant customers. Moreover, they are resorting to unethical ways such as intimidation and hooligan behaviour to force sell item. Complaining them to police and CASE seems ineffective and frustrating. The only way to discourage such unwholesome business is to stop buying from those shops.

It is not surprising that these “blacklisted” shops only rely on one-time transaction and therefore will want to rip on new customer as much as possible by pricing the product far higher than market price and recommended them as “value for money”,  knowing that the customer will never patronize the shop again. Usually, these shops are located in similar premise and exploit the assumption of the customer that strong competition will provide better “value for money”.

Nothing could be further from the truth as the so called “value for money” turn out nothing more than scam, mislead, misrepresentation and cheat. For these shops, the only excuse and right to prey on these customers is Caveat Emptor, that is buying with their eyes wide open. Moreover, due to their unethical business ethnic, some even resort to repackage repair set as new, missing warranty and items. Buying from these shops means that the customer is at mercy of their unscrupulous acts.

Hence, customers are better off staying away from “notorious” Sim Lim Square,  Lucky Plaza and Peninsula Plaza when it comes to getting gaming console (and electronics). Every unethical successful sale they made in expense of customer only encourage them further and bolder. Refers to the post Avoid getting Gaming Console in Sim Lim Square (SLS) in Singapore

Buying from megastore

The foolproof way is get from big store like Court, Best, Harvey Norman. But take note that it is less flexible and may be hard to get “personalized” service from these mega store, and their gaming console, accessories and games are fixed price and generally priced higher than those you get from reputable specialised gaming shop.

For example, you would  not be able to buy second hand game and sell your game, there will not be flexible pricing based on bundle, and they will not test software for software compatibility. In addition, the range of accessories and choice may be limited. In addition, you would not be able to get repair service that affordable and efficient.

Lynas

Lynas:Latest news Lynas.Search result Lynas.All about  Lynas.Singapore trend Lynas.
The Lynas Corp rare earth plant in Gebeng, Kuantan, is safe as long as its operations are monitored properly, said PAS' Hulu Langat MP Che Rosli Che Mat.

Che Rosli, a nuclear scientist by training, said there must be constant monitoring to ensure that the plant fully complied with safety and operating procedures.

“It is safe if there is monitoring,” Che Rosli told reporters here yesterday. He also said that he stood by his views made last year in a media.

Che Rosli went on TV3 on Aug 24, to say that Kuantan residents need not worry about the safety of the plant and that accusations against it were “unscientific and not at all academic”.

He also criticised Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, who opposed the construction of the plant, for “frightening the public,” and claimed that he had been given a warning by PAS' information department not to comment as the issue was brought up by PKR.

Asked if he would attend the anti-Lynas rally in Kuantan tomorrow, Che Rosli said he had personal matters to attend to.

During an anti-Lynas press conference on Wednesday,  National Indian Advancement Team (NIAT) chairman Thasleem Ibrahim claimed that only a handful of Malaysians are aware of the issue.

“Only one in four people outside Kuantan has actually heard of the issue. This is a blatant abuse of power and the mainstream media has a role in speaking the truth about Lynas.

“Are we going to welcome the devil that is waiting to kill us slowly but surely?” he asked.

He also pointed out that this is a national issue which will affect all Malaysians in future.

Thasleem urged the public to protest the building of LAMP and unite to stop other future nuclear plants.

Among the supporters at the press conference were representatives from Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement, People's Green Coalition, Parti Rakyat Malaysia and LLG Cultural Development Centre.

To create more awareness of Lynas before the rally, a forum on the dangers of the plant will be held tomorrow (Feb 25) from 9am-noon at   Dewan Jubli Perak in Shah Alam.

Key speakers are Save Malaysia Stop Lynas (SMSL) chairman Tan Bun Teet, nuclear physicist Ahmad Bongsu and other non-governmental organisations representatives.

Ahmad  Bongsu had previously warned that the impact of any disaster at the Lynas plants could be as severe as the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe in Japan..

"When the Chernobyl disaster (nuclear accident in Ukraine) took place, the radioactive particles were carried by winds all the way to Scotland.

"The rain water that was infused by those particles fell onto fields and livestock," said Ahmad.

He said that radioactive particles from toxic dumps in Gebang, Kuantan, could be carried by winds and monsoon rains across West Malaysia.

"So don't think you're safe just because you don't live in Kuantan," he said.

Meanwhile, the state expects 300 participants, including representatives from local authorities, to attend Saturday's forum.

"We want councillors and council staff to be aware of Lynas and the dangers they bring to the community," said executive councillor Ronnie Liu.

He said at a press conference on Thursday that the rare earth plant would emit high levels of radioactivity and cause wide-ranging negative implications for the country.

However Wong stressed that the Himpunan Hijau rally would not serve or be used as a platform for any political purpose.

“Our only focus is to protest against the LAMP in Gebeng,” he repeated. “Otherwise we are gathering peacefully to speak on issues of sustainable development and the environment.”

When asked if the other Himpunan Hijau rallies in Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Penang and Sabah had faced any difficulties, Wong said he hadn’t heard of any as yet.

Rally organisers have targeted a crowd of 20,000 people to make it the biggest rally yet against the controversial RM2.5 billion LAMP, scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of the year.

Genting Singapore

Genting Singapore:Singapore police today arrested a 30-year-old Malaysian woman who is believed to have stolen S$22,000 (RM52,876) from a man at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) in the island republic, the Singapore Straits Times reported.

According to the newspaper, a 38-year-old man reported to the police last December that his money amounting to S$22,000 had been stolen by a female suspect who had earlier befriended him at the RWS casino.

When the police arrived, the suspect was no longer at the scene, according to the report posted on the newspaper’s website this afternoon.

Officers from the Clementi Police Division carried out an extensive follow-up investigation, and arrested the suspect at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) hotel early this morning.

If found guilty of the offence, the suspect could face seven years’ imprisonment and a fine.

Genting Singapore PLC reported Wednesday a fourth-quarter net profit of $262 million compared with a $150.3 million loss a year earlier, thanks to higher earnings from its integrated resort, as well as lower impairment losses and taxes.

Hyflux Ltd. (HYF SP) sank 7 percent to S$1.47 after Singapore’s biggest publicly traded water-treatment company said full-year net income decreased 40 percent to S$53 million from the previous year.

Neptune Orient Lines Ltd. (NOL SP) slid 5.6 percent to S$1.345 after Southeast Asia’s biggest container carrier reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $320.4 million, compared with a profit of $177 million a year earlier. Analysts predicted a loss of $123.6 million, according to the average of eight estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

Otto Marine Ltd. (OTML SP) plunged 8.9 percent to 14.4 Singapore cents after the shipbuilder posted a full-year net loss of S$67.7 million, compared with a profit of S$40.7 million the previous year.

Lee Hsien Yang

Lee Hsien Yang:Sociopolitical website TR Emeritus (TRE) has removed a defamatory comment made by a netizen about Fraser and Neave (F&N) Chairman Lee Hsien Yang.

TRE said that it "wishes to put this episode behind us and move on. We thank Mr Lee for his cooperation and understanding."

It also ran the following statement on its website:

"We, the Editorial Team of TR Emeritus, acknowledge and regret that a defamatory comment about Mr Lee Hsien Yang was placed on our website by a netizen. We had and have no intention to defame Mr Lee. We have removed the said defamatory comment from our website."

Earlier Thursday evening, human rights lawyer, Mr M. Ravi, had told a local news agency that he was no longer acting for TRE in the case involving Mr Lee.

Mr Ravi also said he did not know who was acting for TRE and what course of action they planned to take.

On their website, TRE said it "is now represented by Senior Counsel Mr Kannan Ramesh of Tan Kok Quan Partnership."

It also mentioned that Richard Wan, one of its Singapore-based editors, informed the team that negotiations were underway at the office of Stamford Law and a settlement was in view.

Previous reports said TRE intended to resist legal action from Mr Lee, suggesting that his case is different from that of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

TRE editors had earlier acknowledged receipt of the letter from Mr Lee's lawyer, who asked that they remove an allegedly defamatory comment posted by one of TRE's readers on the site.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong in a statement said that the premier and his government would like to extend their warmest congratulations to His Majesty and the Government of Brunei Darussalam on the joyous occasion of Brunei Darussalam’s 28th National Day.

“Under His Majesty’s wise and enlightened leadership, the people of Brunei Darussalam enjoy a high standard of living and strong economic growth, while remaining united by the traditions and values of Bruneian society.”

Lee Hsien Loong said it was a great pleasure to meet His Majesty over dinner during the recent visit to the 2012 Singapore Airshow. His Majesty’s visit reaffirmed the excellent ties that exist between the two countries.

“Brunei Darussalam and Singapore share a common strategic outlook on many regional and international issues. Our officials work closely in many areas, including the economy and defence. My government and I greatly appreciate His Majesty’s personal efforts to strengthen our bilateral relationship and I am similarly committed to enhancing Singapore-Brunei Darussalam ties in the years ahead.”

Lee Hsien Loong sent his best wishes for His Majesty’s good health and the continued prosperity of Brunei Darussalam.

His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam also received a congratulatory message from Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Law, K Shanmugam on the occasion of the Sultanate’s 28th National Day.

K Shanmugam noted how Singapore and Brunei enjoy long and warm ties, underpinned by the strong friendships between their leaders and robust institutional linkages. “We have cooperated closely in regional issues, especially Asean, as well as within other international platforms.

“Under Your Royal Highness’ firm and able leadership, our relationship has grown from strength to strength, and we continue to collaborate and share experiences over a wide spectrum of areas. Our two foreign ministries work closely together and have taken the lead in maintaining and strengthening various bilateral programmes, such as the Singapore-Brunei exchange visit.” K Shanmugam conveyed his best wishes for the continued happiness, good health and success to His Royal Highness.

Baey Yam Keng:

Baey Yam Keng:No matter where a scholarship comes from, nationality should not factor into the decision of who receives it, says Member of Parliament (MP) for Tampines GRC Baey Yam Keng.

"Whether they are a GLC (government-linked company), the government or a private company, they all want good people to work for them," he told Yahoo! Singapore in an interview on Thursday.

He said that a scholarship should be awarded based on meritocracy, and should not be allocated specifically to locals or foreigners.

"If a local is as good or better than the foreigner, I think the local should get it. It shouldn't be because I want a foreigner, therefore I will settle for (a candidate with) a lower standard… because ultimately people want good talents, so the nationality should not be an issue at all," he added.

Comments to media sparked online backlash

Baey was at the receiving end of a wave of online furore over the past two days following his comments in Wednesday's The New Paper on a Chinese scholar studying here who made the "There are more dogs than people in Singapore" remark on his web blog.

After almost 40 posts attacking him were posted on his fan page wall, Baey published a transcript of what he said to the newspaper over a phone interview, where he explained that Singaporeans should not jump to conclusions over the comment the student, Sun Xu, had made.

The note he posted on his Facebook profile and shared on his fan page attracted almost 350 comments, some of which were positive but most were negative sentiments from internet users, who questioned his choice of words, his statement that citizens should "reflect upon (themselves)", and even his loyalty to Singapore, among other things.

When asked about the fiery reactions to his initial comments, Baey told Yahoo! Singapore he accepted, understood and appreciated the sentiment expressed in them.

While several users took issue with the fact that he felt the need to deconstruct Sun's offending line while speaking to TNP, Baey said at that point he was striving to be as rational as possible about the situation.

"I have to be accountable for what I say, whether published in the media or otherwise," he said, explaining why he published the transcript of his phone interview with the paper, with the hope of setting context to his words.

"I thought at the time, let's not jump to conclusions. Yes, certain words can be hurtful but let's not punish (the whole community because of) one person… we shouldn't just pick on one word (or phrase) and that's it, condemn the person for life just because he's said that.

"My point was please, let's not enlarge or expand it to say that all foreign students are bad — that's very dangerous."

Responding to people accusing him of defending Sun's actions, Baey said, "Why should I defend him? I'm just asking for us to take a step back and cool down, rather than just reacting on impulse."

'A big lesson in my political career'

When asked whether he would have said anything differently on hindsight, Baey said he still stands by his views, as well as his intentions, although he is more mindful of how people might read into the things he says.

"There's a lot of learning I have done from this… it's a big lesson for me in my political life—in fact, I would say my whole career so far," he said.

"But to me, I still do what I think is right, and will do my best serving people in my constituency, the country and the society," he added.

Acknowledging the threats on his Facebook page of him losing his voters in 2016, Baey said, "Ultimately I think I want people to judge me over a longer period of time. It's a lot more about what I do and what I say. Look at me as a person, what my values and views are, and whether they are consistent… so I'm taking it in my stride; I cannot let (the incident) hamper what I need to do in the constituency because I shouldn't.

"I will still make my own judgement and do what I think is right, and I hope people will understand that and give me the opportunity to do so."

CCHMS (Chung Cheng High School)

CCHMS (Chung Cheng High School):Chung Cheng High School (Chinese: 中正中学) is a Special Assistance Plan (SAP) secondary school in Singapore. It was opened in 1939 at Kim Yam

Road by Aw Boon Haw and other businessmen. It started as an all boys school but became a co-ed

school after World War II.

The school is named after Chiang Kai-shek, President of the Republic of China from 1948 to 1975,

who is also known as Chiang Chung-cheng.

Chung Cheng High School has a branch school, now known as Chung Cheng High School

(Yishun) located at Yishun St. 61. The main school is now located at 40–56 Goodman Road. Both

schools are affiliated to Nanyang Junior College. Chung Cheng High School (Main) is renowned

for its lake, known as the Zhongzheng Lake (中正湖); its size has been reduced by about

two-thirds by several school-expansion programmes since the 1950s. The recent phase of

upgrading cost Chung Cheng High School (Main) around $70 million, and saw the renovation of

several buildings, such as the Administration Building. The new extension is built on a portion of

the lake, with part of the building extending into the lake. The main building has the auditorium

which was the largest in the whole Southeast Asia region when it was opened.

Point of Entry

Point of Entry:Point of Entry is the seventh album from the British heavy metal band Judas Priest. It was released on 26 February 1981.

In 1980 Judas Priest garnered some airplay with "Breaking the Law" and "Living After Midnight" from their album British Steel. As a result the band pursued a more radio friendly direction on Point of Entry.

In the booklet of the Remastered CD, the band states:

"Recorded on the island of Ibiza with multiple distractions, glorious sunshine, and extremely low cost alcohol, this album was regarded with mixed feelings because it was different from what people expected. The album was nearly all spontaneously written and performed in Ibiza - it was an experiment in the sense that before this we had already written the majority of the songs before going into the studio."

he couple had to purchase bottled water for more than a year until they were hooked up to municipal water in August. The state partially reimbursed their costs for the water they bought, and the town waived the water-connection fee.

“Our well water was really excellent,” Frances Penza said. “But we don’t drink it anymore.”

The other option the state presented homeowners was to install a point-of-entry treatment system. DEP paid for those systems, and technicians monitor them monthly.

The DEP is still investigating any other causes of the contamination and is working with the owners of the Village Shopping Center, DEP spokesman Larry Hajna said.

“Under state law, current owners are considered liable for cleaning up pollution caused by past activities on their properties,” Hajna wrote in an email.

Hajna also noted that while there is a dry-cleaning storefront in the commercial center now, the business does not dry clean on the site and is not a source of the contamination.

Hammonton Mayor Steve DiDonato said he was discussing the issue with town engineers after seeing the information released by PEER.

“This is a very unfortunate situation,” he said. “I entrust the DEP to handle the situation and monitor the wells of the homeowners that are affected by this.”

Rep. Frank Pallone, D-6th, has also called on the EPA to explain why the 27 sites given hazard scores higher than 28.5 were not listed on the national Superfund list.

PEER is continuing with litigation against the EPA under the Freedom of Information Act to seek information about hazard listings for sites that are pending a determination for Superfund status.

“Keeping those documents confidential is not good public policy,” Wolfe said. “The public should have this information, and all those kinds of things that put context around the site are totally unavailable to the public.”

So with this budget, I am proposing to create a new division focused on children within the Department of Children and Families. This division will be the point of entry for all families with children with developmental disabilities — allowing them to benefit from a battery of services without having to be shuttled from agency to agency.

The concept is to treat the whole child and the whole family — in one place. The division will develop an integrated set of services — and for these families, make government work smarter and better. It will also provide a transition process through adolescence to adult services.

So I ask for your support of this simple and streamlined approach to the provision of services. How we care for individuals with developmental disabilities is a fundamental issue. Let's serve this population better.

For our seniors, I propose a similar approach. With this budget, I am proposing the creation of a Division of Aging Services. This division, to be housed in the Department of Human Services, will also be the single point of access for all of our services to seniors. It will enable us to coordinate all senior services — nursing home care, community care, pharmaceutical assistance for the aged and disabled, senior gold, utility lifeline. In one place. With a coordinated, holistic approach.

Former Teenage Icon winner Ming Bridges is now a singer-songwriter in her own right. The 19-year-old stunner recently released her debut album Who Knows, which comes with English tracks, all composed by her; and three Mandarin tracks, co-written by her and homegrown songwriting duo Eric Ng and Xiaohan.

Her first Mandarin single, Some Boys Just Aren't Made For Love, says a girl should never fall for a guy who can't return her love. In real life as well, Ming only goes for the good boys.

Born to a British father who works in aviation, and a Singaporean mother, a former singer-turned-homemaker, Ming Bridges says the toughest thing about her debut is recording the songs in Mandarin. 'My mum does speak to me in Mandarin, but at home, my dad doesn't understand Mandarin so we don't use it often ... When I'm at my ah-ma's (maternal grandmother) place, they speak Hokkien mostly,' said Ming, who quickly added with a chuckle that she is not proficient in Hokkien either.

Soon-to-debut recording artiste Ming Bridges is blessed with good looks and songwriting talent, but she needs some help with her makeup and hairstyle.

While Powerball and Mega Millions are big deals in the US, Toto results are just as big in Singapore. Just recently the winning numbers combination was announced for the February 6, 2012 Toto drawing. The results have revealed thousands of winners in the lottery system, including a share of the million dollar jackpot.

The latest Toto results revealed three top prize winners who had the numbers 3, 4, 5, 9, 24, 29 and the additional number of 7. According to the official Singapore Pools website, 3 winning tickets were sold for prize group 1. That means each of the 3 winning people or groups receives $306,749 to split the prize. The winning tickets were sold in a variety of locations including the NTUC FP Limbang Shopping Centre, the Kis Store at 18 Cross Street Marsh and McLennan Center.

The estimated jackpot for Thursday, February 9th, will be $600,000. Sales for Toto tickets will close at 6 p.m. local time that night. For those wondering the numbers with the best frequency of being drawn, the website reports since July 1997 that number 17 has hit 243 times as a main ball, with number 30 hitting 227 times, and number 31 hitting 226. The site also features a random number generator for those who want to leave it up to luck.

Toto results are a big deal in Singapore for the top money prizes that can be won. While those winnings don't seem much compared to the millions given away in big US jackpots, not many would complain at gaining several hundred thousand dollars just for spending a few bucks.
